POS pricing in NZ dollars, without the lock-in

Many POS systems in New Zealand charge a monthly fee per till, then add hardware rental, support plans or a share of your card payments. BelloPOS works differently. The Lite plan is free for life and covers a single counter. Go, Pro and Pro+ can be bought once, as a licence you keep, or as a monthly or yearly key paid in advance for as long as you need it. A yearly key costs ten months for twelve. Every amount on this page is shown in NZ dollars.

There is no automatic renewal and no card on file. When a monthly key runs out, you get a 14-day grace period, then the app carries on as Lite with all your products, customers and sales history. GST and record keeping: what NZ businesses should know

These are the Inland Revenue basics most counters run into. Each point links to the official IRD page, which is the source to follow if anything has changed.

• When you must register for GST

  Inland Revenue says you must register for GST if you carry on a taxable activity and your turnover was at least $60,000 in the last 12 months, or you expect it to be in the next 12. You can register voluntarily below that. BelloPOS sales reports show your turnover over any period, which helps you keep an eye on that threshold.

• GST is 15%

  IRD lists the GST rate as 15%. Once you are registered, you add GST to your prices and pass it on to Inland Revenue. In BelloPOS you set the tax on each product or category, and the GST appears on receipts and invoices, so the figures for your GST return come from your actual sales rather than a guess.

• Sales of $200 or less

  For a sale of $200 or less, IRD's taxable supply information rules ask for the seller's name or trade name, the date, a description of the goods or services, and the amount paid. No buyer details are needed. A BelloPOS receipt with your business name in the header and each item listed carries this information by default.

• Sales over $200 and over $1,000

  Above $200, the information must also show your GST number and either the GST amount or a statement that the price includes GST. Above $1,000, a GST-registered buyer's name and one identifier, such as an address, email or NZBN, are added. You must supply it within 28 days of a request. BelloPOS invoices can carry your GST number and the customer's details.

• Keep sales records for 7 years

  IRD lists cash register and point-of-sale records among the records a business should keep, and says records of all cash and electronic sales and purchases must be kept for 7 years. BelloPOS keeps your sales on your own computer, lets you export invoices and runs automatic backups, so you can produce those records when your accountant or IRD asks.

• Card surcharges in store

  The Government has legislated to ban surcharges on most in-store card payments, including EFTPOS and contactless, with a target of May 2026. We have not confirmed the final scope or start date. Check the current rules with your bank or accountant before you add a card fee at the counter. Online payments and foreign cards were reported as excluded.
