POS software pricing for Nigeria, with no surprise renewals

Many inventory and POS apps charge a monthly fee for as long as you trade, often per till and per user, and some renew from your card without asking. BelloPOS works differently. Lite is free for good. Go, Pro and Pro+ can be bought once as a licence you keep, so you stop paying after the first purchase, or as a monthly or yearly key paid upfront for as many months as you need. Nothing renews on its own. If a key runs out, BelloPOS falls back to Lite and keeps every product, sale and customer.

VAT, receipts and records: what Nigerian businesses should know

Nigeria's tax laws were rewritten in 2025, and the Nigeria Tax Act and the Nigeria Tax Administration Act apply from 1 January 2026. FIRS is now the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS). Here is a plain summary of the points that touch your counter, each with the official text it comes from. Rules and their rollout change, so confirm anything that affects your business with your accountant.

• VAT at 7.5%, with food and medicines at 0%

  The Nigeria Tax Act 2025 (section 147) charges VAT at 7.5% on taxable supplies. Section 186 sets a zero rate for items including basic food items and medical and pharmaceutical products. BelloPOS sales reports by day and by product give your accountant clear figures, but which rate applies to each line, and how you account for it, is for your accountant to confirm.

• Small businesses and VAT

  Under the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025 (section 22), a small business, meaning gross turnover of ₦100 million or less a year and fixed assets of ₦250 million or less, is exempt from VAT registration, charging VAT and monthly returns, unless it opts in. Professional services do not count as small businesses. BelloPOS reports show your yearly sales, but your accountant should confirm your status.

• What a VAT invoice must show

  Section 152 of the Nigeria Tax Act says a taxable person must number invoices in sequence and show the supplier's Tax ID, name and address, business registration number, date, buyer's name, gross amount, and the VAT charged with its rate. BelloPOS prints your shop details on every receipt, but its receipts are sales records, not VAT invoices. Where you must issue VAT invoices, do so as your accountant advises.

• E-invoicing and fiscalisation (MBS)

  The law lets the NRS require taxable businesses to use its fiscalisation system, the Merchant Buyer Solution (MBS), for e-invoicing, and failing to use it once required carries penalties. Which businesses must join, and from when, is set by the NRS in phases. BelloPOS is not connected to MBS and is not an approved fiscalisation solution, so use the NRS's own tool or an approved provider for that part.

• Keep your records for six years

  Section 31 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act says every person, whether or not they owe tax, must keep books or records of account with enough detail to work out their tax, in English, for at least six years. BelloPOS keeps every sale on your own PC and can export the sales for a period as PDF. Back up regularly to a flash drive, or with the automatic backups in Go.

• Customer data and promotional messages

  The Nigeria Data Protection Commission's General Application and Implementation Directive (Article 18) says consent is required for any direct marketing. If you keep customers' names and phone numbers in BelloPOS for credit or loyalty, ask before you send them promo SMS or WhatsApp broadcasts, and keep their details only for as long as you need them.
