EPOS features that fit Irish VAT and Irish trading

An Irish till has to cope with more than one VAT rate in the same basket. Since 1 July 2026, food served in cafés, restaurants and pubs and hot takeaway food carry the 9% rate, while soft drinks and alcohol stay at the standard rate. BelloPOS stores the VAT rate on each product, so the till applies it automatically and the receipt and reports break VAT down by rate. Every sale is numbered, dated and timed, and the X and Z reports give you a clean close for each shift and each day.

Because BelloPOS runs on your own PC or Mac, it keeps selling when the broadband drops, which matters as much in a busy Dublin shop as in a village pub in Connemara. Barcodes and labels speed up retail, tables and tabs serve hospitality, and customer credit suits the local regulars who settle at the end of the week. Staff each have their own login, and from the Go plan an activity log records who voided, discounted or changed a price. Backups are files you keep, on a USB stick or a drive in the office.

What Irish businesses use most

VAT rate on every product

Set 23%, 13.5%, 9% or zero on each item once, and the till applies it to every sale. Receipts and reports split the totals by VAT rate, which makes the VAT return easier to prepare with your accountant.

X and Z reports

Run an X report mid-shift to check takings without closing, and a Z report to close the day. Each report shows the split between cash and card, so cashing up and the bank lodgement match the card machine's totals.

Works fully offline

Sales, stock and customers are stored on your own machine. A broadband outage, a router failure or weak coverage outside the cities does not stop the queue, and nothing waits for a cloud server to answer.

Tabs, tables and multi-till

With Pro, keep a tab open per table, split the bill between guests, run several tills on your local network and send food orders to a kitchen screen. Staff can take orders at the table on a phone with the handheld app.

Backups and an activity log

Copy your data to a USB stick or external drive on any plan; Go adds scheduled automatic backups and an activity log of sensitive actions. Useful when Revenue expects till records to be kept and reproducible for six years.

How Irish businesses use BelloPOS

A café in Galway

A twelve-table café near Eyre Square runs counter service in the morning and table service at lunch. Coffees and toasties sit on the front grid, so a flat white and a hot panini are two taps. Bottled water and cans carry the standard rate while the food carries the 9% rate, each set once on the product. At close, the Z report gives the day's takings by cash and card for the bank lodgement.

A pub in Limerick

A family pub with a food menu at the weekend keeps a tab open per table and rings rounds at the bar in one tap. Pints, spirits and minerals come off stock as they are poured, so Monday's order is built from real numbers. Each barman logs in with his own account, voids need a supervisor, and the shift close counts the drawer against the till.

A convenience shop in Dublin

A corner shop in Phibsborough scans everything from milk to phone chargers with a USB barcode scanner, and prints its own labels for loose goods and deli items. Low-stock alerts flag what to reorder before the cash-and-carry run. When the broadband drops, the till keeps selling, because the sales are stored on the shop's own PC and backed up to a USB stick.

A chipper in Waterford

A busy takeaway sells hot food at the 9% rate and cans and bottles at the standard rate, often in the same order. Each item carries its own VAT rate on the till, and the receipt shows the breakdown. The owner checked with her accountant how meal deals should be split between rates, then set the prices once so the Friday-night rush is just tapping and printing.

Runs anywhere
