POS pricing in Canadian dollars, with no subscription trap

Prices on this page are shown in Canadian dollars. Start with Lite, which is free forever and covers selling, receipts, barcodes and stock. When the shop grows, choose Go, Pro or Pro+. Each paid plan can be bought once and kept for life, or as a monthly key paid in advance for as many months as you want. Yearly keys give you twelve months for the price of ten. Nothing renews automatically, and if a key runs out the app falls back to Lite with all your data intact.

Pro and Pro+ include the Ready-to-Sell Pack: we install BelloPOS on your computer, add your products and train your staff remotely, so a shop in Winnipeg or Moncton can be selling within days. Canadian tax and record rules your till should support

These are your obligations as a merchant, summarised from official sources. BelloPOS helps you keep the records; it does not file anything for you.

• GST, HST, PST or QST depends on the province

  Alberta and the territories charge GST only. British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan add a provincial sales tax, Quebec adds QST, and Ontario and the Atlantic provinces charge a single harmonized HST. Rates change from time to time, so check the current CRA table and set each product's tax accordingly in BelloPOS before you open the till.

• When you have to register for GST/HST

  You stay a small supplier while your taxable revenue is at or under $30,000 in a single calendar quarter and over the last four quarters. Once you go over, you must register and start charging GST/HST. BelloPOS sales reports show your totals by period, which makes it easier to see when you are approaching the threshold.

• What goes on a receipt for a business customer

  Business customers need certain details to claim input tax credits. Under $100: your business name, the date and the total. From $100: add the GST/HST amount and your GST/HST number. From $500: add the buyer's name, a description and the payment terms. BelloPOS receipts and exported invoices can carry these fields.

• Keep your records for six years

  The CRA expects business records to be kept for six years from the end of the last tax year they relate to, and records kept electronically must stay readable in electronic form. BelloPOS keeps your sales history on your own computer and can make backups, but storing those backups safely remains your responsibility.

• B.C. retailers register to collect PST

  If you sell or lease taxable goods in British Columbia in the ordinary course of business, you generally must register to collect PST, with a limited small-seller exception that does not apply to liquor, tobacco or vapour products. Manitoba and Saskatchewan have their own rules, so check with your accountant before you start charging.

• Quebec restaurants and bars: BelloPOS is not an option for billing

  In Quebec, restaurant and bar operators registered for QST must produce bills with a Revenu Québec-certified sales recording system that sends data to the WEB-SRM. BelloPOS is not certified and does not meet these rules, so it cannot be your billing system for a Quebec restaurant or bar. Revenu Québec describes this measure for the restaurant sector; other Quebec shops should confirm their own obligations.

BelloPOS holds no certification or approval from the CRA, Revenu Québec or any provincial tax authority. It is a sales, stock and receipt tool. Tax rules change and depend on your situation, so check with your accountant before relying on any setup.
