POS system pricing for Tanzania, pay once or by the month
Many POS systems sold in Tanzania charge a monthly fee for as long as you trade, per till or per branch, on top of the hardware. BelloPOS works differently. Lite is free for good. Go, Pro and Pro+ can be bought once as a licence you keep, so you stop paying after the first purchase, or as a monthly or yearly key paid upfront for as many months as you need. Nothing renews by itself. If a key runs out, BelloPOS falls back to Lite and keeps every product, sale and customer account.
Pro and Pro+ include our Ready-to-Sell Pack: we install the software remotely, help you connect your receipt printer and scanner, add your products and train your staff. How Tanzania pays, and how you record it
BelloPOS does not process payments and is not connected to any mobile money network, bank or card machine. The customer pays the way they always do, and you pick the payment method on the sale, so every sale shows how it was paid. You can add your own payment methods to match how your shop gets paid.

Because BelloPOS does not read your mobile money statements, check the sales recorded under each wallet against the M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa or Airtel Money messages and statements at closing. A gap usually means a payment was recorded under the wrong method.
EFD, VFD, VAT and presumptive tax: what applies in Tanzania
A POS system does not make you compliant on its own. These are the main rules for a trading business, each with a link to the TRA or PDPC page we read. Your situation may differ, so confirm with your accountant or an approved tax consultant (mshauri wa kodi).
Fiscal receipts from an EFD or VFD
TRA says a person whose annual turnover is assessed at TZS 11 million or more must issue fiscal receipts or invoices with an electronic fiscal device bought from an approved supplier. An EFD is a receipt machine authorised by the Commissioner General; a VFD is approved cloud software. BelloPOS is neither, and its receipts are not fiscal receipts.
Keep the device on site and report faults
According to TRA, an EFD or VFD may not be transferred to another person, must be available and visible at your business premises, and any wrong entry or breakdown must be reported to the approved supplier and the Commissioner General within 24 hours. Keep issuing fiscal receipts from your device even when BelloPOS runs the queue.
VAT at 18% from TZS 200 million
TRA states that VAT registration is mandatory when taxable turnover reaches TZS 200 million in twelve months, or TZS 100 million in six months. The standard rate in Mainland Tanzania is 18%, and the VAT return and payment are due by the 20th of the following month through the taxpayer portal. BelloPOS sales reports by day and by product help you prepare figures, while fiscal receipts and VAT returns stay with your EFD or VFD and your accountant.
Presumptive tax and complete records
TRA describes a presumptive regime for resident individuals with business turnover up to TZS 200 million, where the tax due is lower when records are complete than when they are incomplete. Every taxpayer must keep the documents needed to work out their tax for at least five years. BelloPOS sales reports help you keep figures, but ask your accountant what counts as complete records.
Registering to process personal data
The Personal Data Protection Commission states that a person shall not collect or process personal data without being registered with the Commission as a data controller or data processor, with registration done online at pdpc.go.tz. If you keep customer names and phone numbers for credit accounts or offers, check with your adviser whether you need to register.
BelloPOS is not certified, approved or registered by TRA, ZRA or any other Tanzanian authority. It is not an EFD, VFD or approved fiscal system, and it issues no fiscal receipts, fiscal invoices or other tax documents. Receipts printed from BelloPOS are not fiscal receipts. Businesses in Zanzibar follow Zanzibar tax rules, which we have not verified. Fundis, contractors and walk-in buyers purchase cement, iron sheets and paint from the same counter at different prices. Is there a monthly fee?
Only if you choose one. Go, Pro and Pro+ are sold as a one-time licence you keep, with free updates. If smaller payments suit your cash flow, buy a monthly or yearly key instead, paid upfront. There is no automatic renewal, so nothing is charged without you asking. The free Lite plan never expires, and a yearly key costs the same as ten months.
Which plan suits my business?
Lite suits a small duka with one till. Choose Go for credit accounts, wholesale price groups, purchase orders, sales export to PDF, scheduled backups and Ares AI. Choose Pro for a restaurant, a bar with tables or any shop with more than one till, plus free setup. Choose Pro+ if you want us to load all your products and train your whole team.
How do I pay from Tanzania?
Send us a WhatsApp message with the plan you want. We confirm the price, tell you how payment can be made and send your licence key once payment is received. Pro+ can be split into two interest-free payments, with the dates agreed with us. Every purchase comes with an invoice.
Does the price include an EFD or VFD?
No. BelloPOS is not a fiscal device and we do not sell EFDs or VFDs. If TRA rules require you to issue fiscal receipts, you buy the device or VFD service from a supplier on TRA's approved list and keep using it alongside BelloPOS. Our invoice is from a US company and is not a fiscal receipt; ask your accountant how to record it.
