A grocery checkout is measured in items per minute, and every one of them starts with a barcode. BelloPOS works with any USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner straight out of the box: scan, and the product, price and tax land in the basket. Products without a barcode get one you print yourself, on labels from the app.

Behind the register it is a full inventory desktop app (stock levels, categories, suppliers and purchase orders), installed on your own PC in Morocco, where the data stays. The free lifetime license covers checkout, receipts, barcodes and stock, so a small shop can run the whole thing without paying anything.

A grocery store POS system for independent and international markets

Independent grocers, from Latin American and Asian markets to halal butchers with a grocery aisle and small-town food stores, stock thousands of products, many imported without US barcodes. BelloPOS handles a large catalog on an ordinary PC or Mac: scan UPCs, print your own labels for imports and bulk goods, and find items fast by name or category. Many states tax groceries differently from soda, candy or prepared food, so you set the sales tax rate on each product and the receipt shows the tax lines. Each product can carry its brand, category and cost, so finding the right jar of salsa or bag of rice at the register takes seconds.

Grocery margins live in the back room. Record every supplier delivery against a purchase order with what you paid, track stock as it sells, and see which aisles earn their space. Wholesale price groups let you sell cases to restaurants and corner stores at their own price. With Pro, several registers share one database on your store network and keep running if the internet drops. Staff can use the app in Spanish, Arabic or Portuguese, among 36 languages, while receipts print in the language you choose. With Pro+, our setup team imports your product list and trains your cashiers before opening day.

How Americans pay, and how BelloPOS records it

US shoppers mostly pay by card, with contactless tap to pay growing fast, but cash still matters at corner stores and in cities that require it. BelloPOS records every payment type you take.

BelloPOS does not connect to a card processor or EBT network and never charges processing fees. Payments are taken on your existing terminal and recorded in BelloPOS so your daily totals match. In New York City, most stores must also accept cash.

Grocery store POS questions

Can I charge different sales tax on groceries and other items?

Yes. You set the tax rate on each product, so items your state exempts or taxes at a reduced rate can sit in the same basket as fully taxable goods. BelloPOS adds the right amount for each line and prints the breakdown. Which items are taxable, and at what rate, depends on your state and city, so confirm the rules with your accountant.

Does BelloPOS accept EBT/SNAP?

BelloPOS does not process EBT. Stores accept SNAP only once authorized by the USDA's Food and Nutrition Service, and take EBT cards on EBT-capable equipment. You take the payment on that equipment and record it in BelloPOS as a separate payment type, so your daily report shows EBT apart from cash and card. Check the USDA's retailer rules before setting this up.

How many products can it handle?

BelloPOS runs on your own computer, so a large grocery catalog is fine. With Pro+, our setup team imports up to 10,000 products from your spreadsheet or old POS system, adds your logo to receipts and trains your staff, so you can be selling within 48 hours of sending your product list.

Can I sell wholesale to restaurants and other stores?

Yes, with Go and above. Create price groups, such as wholesale or restaurant, each with its own price on every product. Assign a customer to a group and their prices apply automatically at checkout. You can also export numbered PDF invoices for those accounts and let trusted customers pay on account with a credit limit.

Can I run several registers on a busy weekend?

Yes, with Pro. One computer acts as the main register, and the others connect over your store's local network, sharing products, prices and stock in real time. Each cashier has their own PIN, and the activity log shows who did what on which register. Everything keeps working without internet.
