How Americans pay, and how BelloPOS records it
US shoppers mostly pay by card, with contactless tap to pay growing fast, but cash still matters at corner stores and in cities that require it. BelloPOS records every payment type you take.

What US small businesses should know at the register
Sales tax in the US is set by states, and often by counties and cities too. Here are the points that come up most at checkout, with the official source for each.
Register for sales tax with your state
States that charge sales tax generally require retailers to register before selling taxable goods. In Texas, for example, the Comptroller says anyone selling tangible goods in the state needs a sales and use tax permit, and the permit itself is free. Rules, thresholds and fees differ by state, so check with your state revenue department or your accountant.
Your rate depends on your location
One state rate is rarely the whole story. In California, the CDTFA explains that the rate at a given location has three parts: the state rate, the local rate and any district tax in effect, so two stores a few miles apart can charge different totals. Look up your exact combined rate and enter it on your products in BelloPOS.
Keep records of your gross receipts
The IRS lists cash register tapes, deposit records for cash and credit sales, receipt books and invoices as documents that support the gross receipts on your return. BelloPOS keeps every sale with its date, items, payment type and cashier, and Go adds PDF invoice export and scheduled backups. Your accountant decides what your books need.
Know how long to keep them
The IRS says the general period for keeping tax records is 3 years, but it can be 6 years if income was underreported by more than 25%, and employment tax records must be kept at least 4 years. Back up your BelloPOS data regularly and keep copies off the store computer. Ask your accountant which period applies to you.
Cash over $10,000 means Form 8300
A business that receives more than $10,000 in cash in one transaction, or in related transactions, must file IRS Form 8300 within 15 days. This mostly concerns stores selling big-ticket items such as furniture, appliances or jewelry. BelloPOS records how each sale was paid, which helps you spot these sales, but filing is your responsibility.
Card receipts must hide the card number
Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, an electronically printed receipt handed to a cardholder may show no more than the last five digits of the card number, and no expiration date. BelloPOS never sees card numbers, so its receipts carry none; the slip from your card terminal is covered by your processor's settings.
BelloPOS is sales, inventory and receipt software. It holds no certification or government approval in any US state, and it does not file or remit sales tax for you. Tax rules vary by state, county and city: check with your accountant or your state revenue department.

Is there a monthly fee?
Only if you want one. Lite is free with no monthly fee. Go, Pro and Pro+ can be bought once and kept forever, or paid by the month or by the year if you'd rather spread the cost. Monthly and yearly keys don't renew automatically: you buy the period you need, and when it ends you keep using Lite with all your data until you renew.
Do you take a percentage of my card sales?
No. BelloPOS is not a payment processor and is not tied to one. You take card and tap-to-pay payments on your existing terminal, at the rates you've negotiated with your provider, and record the payment type in BelloPOS. We never charge transaction or processing fees, whatever your sales volume.
How do I buy a license?

We confirm the plan, send you payment instructions and an invoice from our US company registered in New Mexico, then email your license key to activate in the app. If you chose Pro or Pro+, we also book your setup session at a time that suits your store.
What is included in setup?
